It is very difficult to find good, professional service providers that are truly excellent in their profession. I found one four weeks ago. Mel's Old City Barbershop is excellent. They are courteous, friendly and the shop is immaculate. I could't be happier. It is easy to make an online appointment and they are quick to text you a confirmation and reminders. Mel's is great! Everyone is so nice. I had my haircut there for the first time two months ago and Joey cut my hair EXACTLY the way I wanted. He's a great barber and he's very personable! Jose has also cut my hair and is great as well; very meticulous. Love these guys!!!

Fantastic family owned and operated business! After moving to Sarasota I was I. Search of a place to get my hair cut after using the same person for over 10 years I was nervous. I went to 5 different places and was treated horribly and told we can’t do it now, you will have to come back and various other excuses. I wondered into Mel’s without high hopes of getting my hair cut that day and was greeted by Mel , her husband and two other employees that all at the same time said come on in, we will be with you in a few mins. Even though they all had people in their chairs. They were actually enjoying their jobs, talking with each other and the customers, really made me feel at home! Thank you to the team! You have earned a customer for life!

Had a really great experience at Mel’s barber shop. The shop is super nice inside and everyone is very friendly and inviting. Jose is an incredible barber and really takes his time to make sure you leave with a superb hair cut. It’s obvious that he loves what he does. I’ll make it a point to visit Mel’s again next time I’m in Sarasota.Edit: I came back to Mel’s just about a year later from this original review and wanted to confirm that this is absolutely the best barber shop I have ever been to. Jose is top notch and I wish I had a barber like him back home. If you’re in the area and need a cut, (or even if you don’t need one, but want to look your best), stop in and see Jose, you will not be disappointed!!!

It’s always a tough call to get a fade when you’re on vacation. I found the perfect spot. Mel’s got me looking fresh and I’m glad I got in there. They take their time and have great attention to detail. The spot is also very clean and welcoming. I’ll be back next time I’m in Sarasota.

We're in town for a family wedding and my husband needed a haircut. Stopped into Mel's after a quick Google search and we're very happy we did! Walked right in, no wait. Fantastic service from all staff, the owner kindly introduced himself, calling us by name. This type of family-owned barber shop is precious and rare. Mel’s Old City Barbershop is the place to go!! Josh does a great cut, I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for but he pointed me in the right direction and the cut came out great!!
